I have had little experience being interviewed, but I knew the Editor of Atlanta Magazines Home, Betsy Riley was simply smashing!!! When she had asked to visit my home workspace I was filled with trepidation. Would she be judgmental?, we live in our home we dont live in a showcase!! After much spring cleaning and late night double checking the day of the BIG interview arrived. Dont get me started on “what do I wear for an interview”it was just a little nerve racking to say the least.
My China Obsession!
Of course when Betsy arrived we were like long lost friends. She immediately put me at my ease and we chatted china! She shares my obsession and indeed we have a piece or two in common. We explored my inventory and chatted about what would work for the article. Then we popped indoors for tea and a chat!
A couple of weeks later it was decided to get some images to go with the article.Well thats not intimidating,at all!!! So I had all ready done a spring clean but what followed was a “if it moves clean it,if it doesnt move clean under it” time that was exhausting.
Picture Day Arrives
The day arrived and the delightful ladies were so not invasive and not judgmental that we all just settled down to the job at hand. The ladies first decided to put the china on the floor!! This is to help with lighting. They brought with them big sheets of colored cardboard, yes my pieces need a colored back ground!! They experimented with deep turquoise but then the bright yellow was chosen. Each of the chosen pieces was rearranged many times until it was just perfect with the piece next to it or with the other pieces around it. The final shots are heaven and it was such a joyful process.many thanks to Caroline Kilgore, Tara McCarthy and Betsy Riley with Atlanta Magazine Home for the experience and the fabulous article.
