This Years Cathedral Antiques Show had many highlights. But the addition of Holly Chapple as lead speaker was surely the biggest and most exciting one for us. Holly began her visit on the wednesday ahead of her speech by meeting all the vendors at IDoLinens location in West Midtown.
We all had a fantastic time not just socializing, although that was super fun! But listening to Holly discussing what makes a table sing. She has so many years of valuable experience and comes up with ideas that most of us had not considered. She gave us insite into how her style had changed and developed over time. What worked and what did not and what was suitable for social events but perhaps not for private parties.
She then had fun rummaging and choosing from the extensive variety of Linens that are available at Ido. Finally after much discussion on the importance of texture as well as color. We found the Velvets…wow so beautiful and so expensive looking and just perfect for the event that was upcoming. The deep green was lush and beautiful and of course a perfect foil for the florals that were going to be created with Cutflower.
Next we moved to the china….my department! I had selected a variety of pieces in her color palette from which she could choose. For her design aesthetic she felt that floral on top of floral was too much. So each of my offerings needed to be simple but cohesive. Plates with green rims and delicate patterns were selected and I was delighted with the result.
We all met at the Cathedral and constructed the table in the vestibule outside the chapel. We were then privileged to listen to Hollys talk
on construction and design of florals. My favorite parts were her reference to her home farm where she grows so many ravishing blooms but also creates a special workshop environment for her many guests.
